Default Prince of Tennis

I just started this series about a few days ago and am up to episode 102 atm, and so far, it has been extremely good. I've watched Naruto and Bleach, but this anime to me seems to outclass those two by far. Here are some reasons imo why it does.

Philosophy
  • Incorporates subtle and dynamic philosophy throughout the anime that really hits the heart and mind. Basic philosophies like giving it your all and overcoming obstacles in your life (through tennis in this case) flow through this series like water.

Comedy!
  • This to me has been one of two animes that I actually had moments where I burst out laughing due to the characters antics (this does not count comedy animes whose purpose is to make one laugh). Not a simple "lol" but physical laughter. (the other was Yakitate! Japan if you were curious). Most episodes contain atleast some kind of comic relief to break the tension between those uncomfortable moments to make them bearable.
  • A good example of these comic relief episodes is (although the first skit was decent, the prince of bowling one was too good *WARNING: spoilers + you really have to watch the thing from start to finish to understand some of the jokes*): http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...&search=Search
  • Characters that contribute to the comedy frequently are Inui (with his juices), the main characters dad, Kawamura Takashi (Burning! Oh my gah, oh my gah, oh my gah, oh my gah!, Oooh Nooo! are some popular catchphrases and what makes it funnier is the funny accent the voice actor has when saying english if watching the japanese version with subs)

Fillers
  • The fillers do not seem like fillers at all! (Unlike those of Naruto or Bleach for example) Some of them imo are actually much more entertaining to watch than some of the matches of the main plot. There are also special chibi episodes that appeal to the fanbase of those that like cute, short visualizations of their favorite characters in the show.

Characters
  • The characters are pretty likeable, and of the Seigaku Regulars, I'm sure everyone will identify with one of them and choose their favorite from the start. My personal favorite is Kikumaru-Kun, or casually referred to as Eiji.

Music
  • The music, although repetitive, does not get annoying and really sets the mood of each situation. I especially like the theme when winning.

There are also some cons of course to this anime. Some of the characters get extremely annoying such as the reporters from the tennis magazine and the characters that add a word such as "-dane" or "desu" after each sentence. Oh and also WATCH THE JAPANESE VERSION. The english version is just not as good and will only hinder your experience of this anime.

All and all, this anime is so far the best one I have seen imo. If I had one word to describe it, it would be "Sugoi" also known as Awesome, a word that is consistently used throughout the show. Anyone else enjoy this anime as much as I do and want to comment about it?

1, Manga is far better than anime
2, If watching anime, watch it in jap with subtitles, dubs suck
3, i have read PoT, just thought Eyeshield or Hajime No Ippo are much better sports manga

1. read manga first then watch anime
2. PoT is a nice series but dont compare with bleach/naruto it will be outclassed

naruto/bleach ect. is meant to be compared to stuff like rorouni kenshin (kenshin FTW)

forgot to mention:
3. NEVER WATCH ANIME IN ENGLISH!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!
they are meant to be watched in Japaneses with subs

some suggestions:

~ouran high school host club(watch anime for this one)
~negima
~hikaru no go
~air gear
~full metal alchemist
~death note
~hunter x hunter
~yu yu hakusho
~genshiken
~and finally:bleach/naruto (obviously)

there may be more cant think of anything else at the moment

Sorry, it was late when I posted this thread and I almost completely forgot about it! Yes my avatar is a picture of chibi Kaidoh. In one of the chibi episodes later on *WARNING: Chibi Episode Spoiler Alert* Oishi becomes a girl thats married to Inui, who have children Ryoma(oldest), Momo(2nd oldest, is a girl), and Kaoru-Chan(youngest, can't write, and only goes fushuu, rides around on his little tricycle), Eiji is the cat that plays with Karupin, and Fuji(girl) and Tezuka are the grandpa + grandma.

If you want to see the two(imo, best) chibi episodes go to:

(1st one, episode 132, not a big series spoiler, fun to watch)
http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...&search=Search

(2nd one, episode 165, not a big series spoiler, fun to watch)

The only good anime that is well voiced in English is Samurai Champloo.
